Learning To Write
Learning To Write Effectively
Both internal and external communication requires writing skills of the highest calibre if the business is to thrive in today’s highly competitive business environment. It is not only the executives or public relations officer who needs high level writing skills but, in fact, every member of staff should have at least the rudiments of writing skill if the entire company is to act as a team in achieving the required strategic goals. Writing skills are the cornerstone of effective communication, especially when dealing with external stakeholders, which is why learning to write effectively is imperative.
Due to the numerous legislative and legal requirements governing the day-to-day operation of a company, any mistakes in written communication can prove extremely costly. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely is also extremely important within the company structures where the use of email has now become an indispensable tool in communication.
This method of communication has proven to be a boon for organisations, but its use is also fraught with dangers due to the increasing use of abbreviations which might not be understood by the recipient of the mail. Rather than resort to these now common usages the users of email should be trained in effective writing skills. Learning to write is something that many of us take for granted, however there are employees that may require assistance in this regard.
Learning to write effectively is essential for the success of the organisation as outlined above. There are many training organisations who offer courses that provide both basic writing skills as well as further business writing skills for management which will hone their existing skill sets to the point where their writing is more suitable to the fast paced business environment of the 21st century.
Whatever the skill levels of today’s business executive there is usually room for improvement and any upgraded skills can give the organisation the edge in an increasingly competitive business environment.
